Hi, hello. I’m glad to see you again.
I don’t mean to start this blog off with a flex, but when I conducted this review, I ate at A&W TWICE that day (thank you, Zak and thank you, mom and dad), not to brag or anything. The Fargo location has been closed for a couple years, so I justified this by saying, “Oh well. Not sure when I’ll be able to have this again.”
Now THAT is some all-American artery clogging, baby.
I obviously had to have A&W’s hand-breaded chicken tenders for one of these food outings.
The base of a good chicken strip always starts with the quality of the meat, and this was some quality stuff, especially for a fast food joint. The chicken was coated in a thin, reasonably seasoned breading that was crispy enough, for the most part. I wouldn’t have minded a little more crunch, but it was satisfying. They were also piping hot and fresh out of the fryer, which is much appreciated.
I liked the fries, too. They were pretty standard that would be acceptable anywhere, with sufficient salt and crunch.
I opted for two dipping sauces. I initially got the ranch, as I do, but my father opted for the Spicy Papa Sauce; so, of course, I had to add a side of that, because how could I not get something called Spicy Papa Sauce? The ranch was fine, the Papa Sauce was wonderful. Highly recommend.
And obviously, I washed down my meal with a tall, frosted glass of A&W root beer. It would be treason not to.
Overall, I give this basket an 8.2. I’m a fan. It had the hand-breaded quality, a thin and mostly crispy breading with good fries and nice sauce. The strips were like a poor man’s Raising Cane’s and a wealthy man’s Hardee’s, to put it in perspective.
Shoutout to my parents for the lovely dinner. My father had been recommending these strips for a couple months. We made sure to go to the Richmond, Minn., location, because that’s where he goes and said they’re hot and fresh every time. Nice call, Dad, they did not disappoint. 8.2.
