I love the Red Onion. It is a Stearns County staple that I enjoyed many times with my family growing up, and am sure to still eat there at least once every summer.
It’s a classic drive-in. They have a great selection of frozen treats and greasy, deep-fried food that hits the spot every time.
If you’re ever in the Belgrade, Minnesota area, I highly recommend stopping in for a shake or a quick meal.
Red Onion’s chicken strip basket is fine. I actually have no complaints about the chicken itself; it was pretty decent quality with a crispy, thin and sufficiently-seasoned breading.
The fries were what held the basket back. Some were crunchy, while others weren’t; but the consistency with the fries were that they all lacked salt.
Red Onion’s ranch is ranch you’ll find anywhere; good but not great.
Altogether, the basket was a 6.6. It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t anything to write home about.
HOWEVER, my meal could have been a 0.4 or a 9.9 and my opinion of the Red Onion wouldn’t change. I will love it unconditionally forever. 6.6.
