For my 20th Basket Review I ventured to my neighborhood Hornbacher’s and picked up some chicken strips from the deli.
I opted for the combo, which includes three strips, two sides and a dinner roll for $5.49. My mans at the deli hooked it up and gave me four tenders instead of three, so that was cool.
All of this food for $5.49 should be illegal.
The strips were good. They tasted exactly like decent, bone-in fried chicken. They were the thickest strips I’ve had so far, which I think took a toll on the crispiness of the breading.
The fries (potato wedges) were better than I expected. They were pretty well-seasoned and crispy. I didn’t get any ranch so I had to use the generic Target brand ranch in my fridge. Which was fine.
The mac and cheese and dinner roll were delicious. But as you know, I don’t let things that aren’t chicken strips or fries factor into my score, though they are greatly appreciated.
Also shout out to my favorite Hornbacher’s employee Mike.
Overall, I give this basket a solid 7. It was good, not great. For the value, it was awesome. This amount of decent food for $5.49 is just obscene. And I loved it. Hornbacher’s: solid 7.
