Basket Review No. 39: Raising Cane’s

This review has been nearly a year in the making. Well, probably like three years in the making. I think that was the first and only other time I’ve been to Raising Cane’s. My first review was in February 2018, so we’ll just say it’s been a year in the making.

OK. Now that we have that cleared up, let’s get to MAYBE the best chicken strip basket I’ve ever had (I say maybe because you gotta read the whole thing to find out if it has the highest score. Ha).

The Cane’s menu is a thing of beauty. You can a get a three, four or six-piece combo, or a sandwich, which is three chicken fingers on a bun with Cane’s sauce and lettuce. And that’s all they offer. Incredible.

I had to go into full self-loathing mode and order the Caniac Combo, because I don’t know when I’ll have this wonderful meal again. My order consisted of six chicken strips with fries, coleslaw, Cane’s Sauce and a slab of Texas toast.

Thank goodness there isn’t a Raising Cane’s in Fargo ’cause this whole diet thing would be derailed unbelievably fast.

OK I’m done teasing you. Let’s do this.

I can’t think of any ways to improve these chicken strips. It was the highest quality chicken I’ve had so far. It was juicy. There were none of those “eh” bites when you get a portion of nasty stuff. Just great.

The breading was slightly on the thin side and was ideally crispy all around. The strips were piping hot and freshly removed from the fryer. So kudos to you, Raising Cane’s, for serving me the freshest chicken strips I’ve had in my life.

The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They could have used an extra dash of salt, but that’s my sole complaint about this basket.

When I asked for ranch, I was told by a stone-faced cashier, “we don’t have ranch.” I respect the hell out of that. Strips, fries and Cane’s Sauce. Now that’s how you run a restaurant. The sauce is amazing, I wouldn’t change anything about it.

The coleslaw and Texas toast were both delicious. I appreciate them being along for the ride.

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for … I’m proud to announce that Raising Cane’s is the new chicken strip champion.

Overall, I give this basket a 9.5. Those fries weren’t nearly the best I’ve had, but the strips certainly were able to make up for them.

Shoutout to my guys for joining me for the review and helping make last weekend great. Ya know who you are.

I don’t know that I’ll ever have a better chicken strip basket. And I don’t think I’ll ever be able to give a perfect 10. If I hand out a perfect score and then find a better basket, then all my credibility is out the window.

Also, Raising Cane’s has some of the best lemonade I’ve ever had. That place is just perfect. I hope it never changes.

I don’t know what to do with myself now. I feel like I’ve peaked. Onto the next one I guess. The chicken strip game never quits and I will never quit. 9.5.
