Basket Review No. 40: Truckers Inn

Welcome to another earth-shattering Basket Review. Sorry to keep you waiting for a couple weeks, I was coming down off my high from Raising Cane’s. But I’m back.

For the 40th installment of A1 chicken strip content, I went back to my roots to Truckers Inn in Sauk Centre, Minn. (Melrose is still cooler than Sauk Centre, by the way).

Truckers is a Stearns County staple. I have yet to run into someone who has something bad to say about it. It was even voted as the best restaurant by my high school class.

I had fair expectations for this basket, but even given that, it impressed me.

The chicken was much higher quality than I anticipated. It was real white meat, juicy chicken covered in a crispy, well-seasoned batter that wasn’t too thick or thin.

The fries were OK. They needed more salt, but were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, which is always enjoyable. The ranch was typical ranch, so it was fine.

I couldn’t decide between giving this a high-7 or a low-8, so I wound up at an 8-flat. It’s a rookie score, considering my system utilizes decimal points, but 8 is fair and correct. I really liked this basket.

And thank you to my lovely mother for joining me and buying me lunch.

The chicken strips dinner came with choice of potato, a delicious piece of Texas toast and a trip to the salad bar all for $9.99.

Don’t let me dictate what you order, everything on Truckers’ menu is great and the portions are massive. Its breakfast menu is fantastic and available all day. My go-to is the country fried steak; but the pancakes, french toast, and burgers and sandwiches are all delicious. You can’t go wrong.

If you’re ever driving through central Minnesota on I94, take exit 127 for Sauk Centre and swing by Truckers, which is right off the interstate. 8.
