Greetings and thank you for joining me.
I absolutely love downtown Fargo. And I love living in downtown Fargo.
The food scene here has wildly exceeded my expectations. From my apartment, I have, within two blocks of me, King House Chinese buffet, 46 North (literally right below me), Pounds, Wurst Bier Hall, Silver Lining ice cream, Poke Bowl, Scoop and Dough, Boiler Room, Blackbird pizza, Rosey’s Bistro, Toscana, Mezzaluna, Smiling Moose Deli, Young Blood coffee (best toast I’ve ever had) and I’m probably missing one or two. It’s fantastic.
And it just got better.
In Roberts Alley, right next to my apartment, Beer and Fish Co. has recently opened. It features a delicious fish and chips, shrimp, a couple sandwich and burger options, an oyster bar, calamari, pasta, beer … and it’s open until 1 a.m.
Also featured on the menu: a chicken strip basket.
My first go, I opted for a classic fish and chips. You can’t really go wrong. It was very tasty. But this time around, your boy got his chicken strip fix.
It was a fairly standard basket. The strips were run-of-the-mill, but the kitchen and wait staff were on top of their game, because it tasted fresh out of the fryer. The breading was solidly crispy and the quality of the meet was fair. It was a standard strip.
The fries were quite nice. They were thicker than the standard fry and had that crispy outside/fluffy inside combination that I’m all about.
The side of ranch was very tasty. It was more on the runny side and had nice flavor. It paired beautifully with both the fries and strips.
We also split an order of fried calamari. It was delicious and came with a side of lemon aioli that was wonderful. It was like ranch in the sense that I want to eat it with everything.
Overall, I give this basket a 6.7. It was good, but the basic chicken strip can only go so far.
I will most certainly be returning to get either more fish and chips or to further explore the menu. I’m also a big fan of the ambiance. It’s a cool building with high ceilings and neat, oceany decorations that features a fun, bright atmosphere. I would go there for happy hour and would also bring a date there (hi, Emma).
Shoutout to my guy Austin for joining me. I’d go to Beer and Fish every night for dinner break if my bank accounted permitted and my health wouldn’t rapidly deteriorate.
6.7.
