Helloooo and welcome to another post where I eat and rank things. It’s one of my favorite hobbies.
This one was requested quite some time ago by my guy and recurring requester Cody Middendorf, and I’m finally getting around to it (I really hope it was worth the wait). It takes a lot to waltz into a grocery store and leave with five pints of ice cream.
Generally I’m a savory guy, but in this installment, I’m ranking the five most popular Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavors.
In 2020, those flavors were, in order, Half Baked, Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Tonight Dough. Notice a theme there? America loves its rich, dough-populated ice cream. Hell. Yeah. Brother.
I’m sure, just like when I ranked burritos, there will be some controversy sprouted from this. But that’s the name of the game.

Here are my rankings:
No. 5: Chocolate Fudge Brownie
It was a good, chocolatey ice cream. What would have made it better for me would be a caramel or peanut butter swirl. The chocolate on chocolate was good, but not great. It’s just a lot of chocolate. It’s a safe bet, but it was just outclassed here.
No. 4: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
A good, classic flavor that will always be loved by me and the rest of the world. Cookie dough ice cream seems like something that was discovered by mistake, but that was a great mistake.
No. 3: Cherry Garcia
This could easily be No. 2 depending on the day, but it tasted more like a No. 3 at the time of recording. It’s a tasty ice cream that nails the combination of chocolate and cherry. The frozen cherries and chocolate chunks not only give it a good flavor profile, but also a nice texture profile.
No. 2: Tonight Dough
I’m surprised Tonight Dough landed where it did on America’s list. It was cookie dough ice cream on steroids. And peanut butter was involved. It was great, but almost too rich.
No. 1: Half Baked
The people got it right. Half Baked was the best of the top five flavors. It was a slightly less rich Tonight Dough that actually ended up working better. The mixture of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie sang harmoniously.
The ACTUAL No. 1: Phish Food
WHOA, a pivot??? Yeah, a pivot. Phish Food clocked in at No. 6 on America’s list and I was oh, so disappointed at that. Phish Food is my favorite Ben and Jerry’s flavor and I’m not sure that will be topped any time soon. Phish Food is comprised of chocolate ice cream, marshmallow swirl, caramel swirl and fudge fish. The marshmallow swirl is what puts it over the top for me. It’s incredible.
That’s all I got. Let me know if you I got it right. I’m probably not going to agree with you, but I’ll hear you out.
