Thank you for joining me for Basket Review No. 4. Today I will be discussing Popeyes; another chicken restaurant that is better than KFC.
I’m just going to dive right in.
The strips were very good. The breading was different from the other strips I’ve had; it was fairly thin, but it was perfectly crispy and well-seasoned. They were the best strips I’ve had so far in my chicken-filled adventures.
The fries were a different story.
The fries tasted like they had been sitting out for a long time. They were very disappointing. I could tell they were seasoned nicely, but they were far from crispy and crunchy.
I will put some of this on me for showing up to the drive-thru at 2:00 in the afternoon and expecting fresh fries … but come on. They were soggy as hell and just an overall letdown.
I feel like I haven’t been clear with how I take the ranch into consideration. The ranch will not hurt the score in any way if it’s just some generic ranch, but I like to reward a tenth of a point or so to a good ranch.
Popeyes’ ranch was fine, if you’ve had any ranch in your life, you’ve had their ranch.
I’m giving this basket a 6.9 (nice). Still a good score for the flaccid, stale fries.
This could have been a first-place chicken strip basket; it had the potential. Sad.
6.9.
