Basket Review No. 47: Mick’s Office

Welcome to the latest and greatest installment of the (hopefully) best chicken strip review you’ll read today.

After a short stretch of 20-plus degree temperatures, it’s currently 5 degrees with a wind chill of -18. Glad to see things are back to normal in Fargo-Moorhead.

Despite the wretched conditions, I still fearlessly ventured across the train tracks to Mick’s Office in Moorhead for a chicken strip basket to write about in my living room (as the children above me do their best to make my life a living hell by loudly running and screaming and jumping) to deliver you fine people the content you deserve.

This was a respectable spread of food. The strips were about as classic as they come. They were fried to a satisfying crisp and tasted fine, but the chicken-to-breading ratio wasn’t quite right. I’d like to more chicken and less breading.

They were also some of the largest strips I’ve ever had. Look at the size of these bad boys, they’re absolute units.

I enjoyed the fries and don’t have any complaints. They were crispy, seasoned nicely and had good flavor overall.

As far as ranch goes, this was some good stuff. It was the perfect consistency and was definitely better tasting than standard ranch you can find anywhere.

Before I reveal my score, I’d like to address something that could potentially become an issue if not explained.

Every time I grab chicken strips to review on the go; whether it’s by drive-thru or picking up an order, like I did today, I always take a few bites as soon as I have my food. I have to maintain a level playing field and try everything when it’s fresh.

Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to get home. A lot of fries and strips would be altered both in texture and taste and wouldn’t be accurately critiqued. These establishments all deserve a fair chance.

Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll give this basket a flat 7. I know, it’s a rookie score, but I’m rolling with it.

I’ve only been to Mick’s a couple times, but it has a fun, college bar feel with great burgers. A few minutes on its Facebook page will have you jonesing for a burger basket. I need to go there more often.

That being said, though, Chumley’s is still the best bar in Moorhead. And has the superior chicken strip basket.

I will leave you with this:

My first Basket Review was Feb. 21, 2018. That means Thrills With JMills is already a year old. That’s a lot of deep-fried chicken. I will continue slowly deteriorating my health to give you more reading material. (I’m actually healthier now than when I started the blog, not to brag).

Thank you for being here and reading these goofy things. I hope they put a smile on your face at some point in time.
