I was finally able to get back to the North Shore recently and spent a couple days in Duluth, Minn.
While we were down in Canal Park, we thought we might as well grab a couple appetizers for lunch before leaving town, so we ventured just outside of the Canal Park madness over to The Sports Garden Bar and Grill.
Diving right in, this was a perfectly acceptable basket. The chicken strips were pretty standard and I had no issue with them. The breading had an acceptable crunch and seasoning, and the quality of the meat was fair.
The establishment claims to have “famous battered fries” that are “the best fries of all-time.” That’s setting the bar pretty high. They were pleasantly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Though quite good, I’m not sure they’re the best fries of all-time.
The Sports Garden refers to its ranch as Garden Ranch, so I imagine it’s made in-house, which it tasted like. It was high-end stuff.
With the chicken strips being about average, I’ll give the basket as a whole a 6.9. That’s a nice score. The fries and ranch really carried the basket, but those are advertised as the standout elements in the menu, so it makes sense.
We also had onion rings, which were delicious. It’s hard to go wrong with a good onion ring.
Thank you to Emma and her sister Stella for joining us, and big shoutout to Stella for letting us crash at her place over the weekend.
We had a stranger take our picture with this duck. I will leave you with that.
