Welcome to another installment of me being intrigued by a random item, eating it and blogging about it. I’m unsure if I’ll give it a formal title, but I’m not sure I have to with that smooth, flawless intro.
Some of you may have been seeing these Hardee’s commercials for their new “BFC Angus Thickburger.” It consists of a rather large patty, cheddar and mozzarella cheese that’s breaded and deep fried, lettuce, tomato and a special, spicy Star sauce.
I’m not sure about you, but when I see an item containing all the above advertised, I need it.
It wasn’t anything mind-blowing, but it was tasty. Though not bad, a fast-food burger patty can only be so good (except Five Guys, which is elite); they all kind of fall from the same tree. The wheel of fried cheese, the star of the show, was nice. The crunch was on point and there was a healthy amount of gooey, gooey cheese inside, it wasn’t just a clump of batter. Good cheese-to-batter ratio. The Star sauce was great, I wish there would have been more of it.
I’m not an opposer of lettuce on burgers. If it’s not a depressed, wilted piece of lettuce that looks like patient zero for an E. coli outbreak, I think it can add a refreshing crunch. That being said, there was too much lettuce on this burger. Just tone it back a little.
Overall, it was a good, unique burger, but there are better ways to spend $7 at a fast-food restaurant, and that’s just for the sandwich. The combo would’ve put me out $10.
As far as fast-food burgers go, I’ll give this a 7.1. It’s a fun meal when you feel like throwing calories out the window.
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think of these random food blogs if you have feedback. I am forever loyal to the humble chicken strip basket and will get back to my chicken-eating ways soon, but I’ve enjoyed going out and eating random items that are unique or catch my eye.
