Hello and welcome to yet ANOTHER first here at Thrills With JMills.
Today, I am putting the chicken nuggets of McDonald’s and Wendy’s in a head-to-head bout, as requested by my good friend Amy Martz. Amy, thank you very much for the request, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
Chicken nuggets are something that’s been in the back of my head for this blog, because so many fast food restaurants have them and though inferior to tenders, they’re in the same family.
Let’s leap into the first ever Thrills With JMills Chicken Nugget Challenge.
I’ll start with the classic: the McDonald’s McNuggets. A household name that millions love and adore, and understandably so. They’re cheap and tasty.
The iconic McNugget batter is consistently crispy and has a hint of sweet, but not too sweet. It’s a nice balance. The McNugget meat is fine, but it’s a hair on the chewy side. I didn’t take condiments much into consideration, but the McDonald’s ranch has a distinguishable flavor, and I’m not as big a fan of it. It’ll do, though.
Other than the size, Wendy’s chicken nuggets are not that similar to McDonald’s. The chicken was a little thicker and juicier and had a breading rather than batter, which reminded me of a chicken patty. The crisp wasn’t as good as that of of McDonald’s, but the quality was better. The ranch was also better, but again, not really taking that into consideration.
These both have their strengths — McNuggets have the better batter (say that 10 times fast) and Wendy’s nuggets are better quality with better meat. Overall, I had Wendy’s at a 6.9 and McDonald’s a 6.7. Two solid nuggets that are a good option every time.
Wendy’s, I have to say, deserves more credit overall. Item by item, it outdoes McDonald’s, except for maybe the fries.
Thanks for reading and watching. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see me review and as always, I appreciate any feedback.
