Hello, familia! Long time no see, eh? Had to take a little break to get my mind right. I wasn’t feeling the content there for awhile, but I’m happy to be back!
There’s been a LOT of hype about the return of the infamous McRib at McDonald’s. I had never eaten a McRib before. It never appealed to me that much, neither by appearance or concept. A patty of pork covered in BBQ sauce with onions and pickles, served on a bun, sold at McDonald’s. That just never got me excited.
But it’s everywhere right now. I see daily ads for it. I hear ads for it ready multiple times a week on podcasts. McDonald’s has even said via Twitter that it’s the most important sandwich of the year. That’s a bold take.
But, nonetheless, seeing this sandwich is unavoidable, so I had to get it out of the way and finally try this polarizing pork creation.
Here’s some really great footage of me eating it and giving my initial reactions. If words are more your thing, I’ll add those below.
Overall, the sandwich was fine. It wasn’t that great, but it wasn’t bad. The pork itself could’ve had a bit more seasoning before being drenched in the BBQ sauce. After biting through that outer layer that’s drowned in sauce, it was a bit bland.
What helped, though, was the plethora of onions on the sandwich. The crisp onions and bite of the pickles were the perfect sidekicks for the pork, so kudos to McDonald’s for nailing that flavor and texture combination.
I give the McRib about a 5.6. It’s fine, but the most important sandwich this year? No shot.
